We are not interested in being your personal trainer. What we can do is ensure your training is optimal. Paul Cavendish has worked with elite level athletes developing annual training plans for junior through to Masters level competitors in track and field, rugby, tennis, surf lifesaving, swimming, triathlon and surfing.

Paul is available to review your training and your goals and advise you on the best way to achieve your goals, whether they be to run your first half marathon or make the National team. He is skilled in ensuring you achieve this by:

–         Developing a plan that works. This is based on the best scientific evidence (not gimmicks)

–         Accurately testing, measuring and monitoring your performance

–         Preventing overtraining by writing or modifying your exercise session plans

–         Implementing key preventative exercises from postural and biomechanical analysis

Return to Work

Paul Cavendish, owner of Synapse has been in workplace health developing, monitoring and reviewing plans for both injury prevention and injury management since 2009.

We ensure that the treatment program contains clearly communicated and agreed goals that are appropriate for the workplace injury and functional status of the client. We work closely with the client, GP and workplace to ensure that the treatment is progressing at the best rate taking in all the considerations. By doing this, workers receive evidence-based treatment that sustains return to work and enhances self-management skills to reduce the likelihood of injury in the future.

Graded exercise treatment as part of a return to work program is appropriate for a number of workplace injuries and health conditions and produces objective benefits, specifically in restoring function and mobility, enabling key outcomes of increased sitting, standing and walking tolerances, applying strength in safe postures to increase pushing, pulling and lifting capacities. This translates to improvement in worker’s health, functional (activities of daily living) and return to work status.

Synapse takes referrals directly from injury case managers, GPs and worker’s compensation insurers. We are a registered provider with QLD and NSW worker’s compensation schemes and experienced working with motor vehicle accident insurance in QLD (MAIC) and NSW (SIRA).

Prevention and management

We prescribe exercise as prevention and treatment to chronic diseases as we believe this works and it is appropriate for nearly everyone.

As accredited exercise physiologists, we have completed university studies and board of review to be trusted to provide exercise to people with a range of conditions. We use not only our exercise prescription knowledge but also our understanding of the body to educate and assist our clients to make positive steps in their lifestyle behaviour.

Correctly prescribed exercise can improve:

– Functional capability and risk of degenerative diseases
– Prevent mechanical low back pain, neck and shoulder pain, osteoporosis and related fractures
